Hannah is a teenage girl growing up in Moldova (Europe) until her parents are killed in a terrorist bombing. While she’s still sad about her loss, she gets offered a job as a nanny for a Russian family in Los Angeles. She goes to America on fake passports and is very nervous but makes it into America. In the beginning it seems like her luck has finally turned around, but living with the Platonovs family turns into a nightmare. The mother forces Hannah to work 16 hour days cleaning and helping around the house, and won’t let Hannah leave the house. The father, is full of secrets, and they refuse to pay Hannah. Stranded in a foreign land with false documents, no money, and nobody who can help her, Hannah has become a slave. And the more Hannah finds out about this family’s terrible secrets, the more her life is in danger. Scared and alone, Hannah reaches out to the boy next door, but in the end Hannah figures out she can only trust herself because everyone has secrets.
I think this is what Hannah felt like al the time because of her parents and her terrible life with the Platonovs. |
